Personalized Parent Coaching - Addressing Your Concerns

navigating parenting storms

What's going on with your kids that is bothering you?

  • Are you concerned about the direction your family is headed?

  • Does your home feel more chaotic then you'd like?

  • Do you disagree with your co-parent on the best approach with the kids?

  • Do you feel overworked and underappreciated as a parent?

  • Are the things you are doing to change your kids' behavior not working?

  • Do you find you need to yell at your kids in order to get them to listen?

  • Would you like to be more patient and loving with your children?

  • Do you want to have more fun together as a family?
If you answered “yes” to any of these, you are definitely in the right place.

How can parent coaching help?

Are you in the middle of a parenting storm? You don't have to go through it alone. You can get guidance to help navigate through the storm.

Parent coaching helps families function better like sports coaching helps athletes improve. I provide an expert eye reviewing your interactions, suggesting ways that may work better and following up with you on the changes you are trying to make.

You are so close to the situation that it can be difficult to see how to change things for the better. It can also be challenging to find agreement with your co-parent on your approach. I provide a neutral lens for viewing your situation and seeing new possibilities.

If your home feels chaotic or disconnected, it can trigger undesirable behavior in both you and your kids. I help you figure out how to change the chaos into calm connection.

I provide compassionate, non-judgmental listening to guide you in identifying priorities and finding solutions. You’ll get in touch with your own parenting wisdom and let it shine through!

How do you know if you need a coach, counselor, or psychotherapist? Choose the professional that best matches your needs.

How does the 6 Session Parent Transformation Program work?

The 6 Session Parent Transformation Program is designed to help quickly move you from where you are to where you want to be.

The process involves:

  • Understanding your current situation
  • Determining how you would ideally like your family to operate
  • Identifying what is and is not working
  • Setting goals and designing ways to reach those goals
  • Taking action to meet your goals
  • Monitoring the progress being made
I walk with you through each step of the process. I will provide careful listening along with figuring out ideas for your next choices, actions and decisions. By the end of each 60 minute session, you will have a map to follow. Sessions can be scheduled every 1 - 4 weeks. You set the pace.

After each call, you will receive a follow-up email summarizing the discussion and action items. You will also have email question and answer support between sessions.

Getting Started with the 6 Session Parent Transformation Program

You can begin by scheduling a complimentary Exploration Session. This is not a coaching session, but rather 30 minutes to explore your needs and the possibilities of working together. The purpose of this call is to determine if this program is the right fit for your goals. Once you decide to enroll, you can schedule your one hour private parent coaching sessions.

The 6 Session Parent Transformation Program is $1000 (a savings of $200 over scheduling individual sessions). We will meet over Zoom. If you live in the Seattle area and would like to meet in person, there is a travel fee based on the distance from UW Bothell: 0 - 9 miles = $25, 10 - 19 miles = $50, 20 - 29 = $75, 30 - 39 = $100

Scheduling a Single Coaching Session

You are welcome to schedule one session at a time. You will leave the session with more clarity about how you want to move forward on your issues and goals. We’ll connect via Zoom and you’ll receive an email summary of our call within a day. You can schedule your session for the date and time you would like. A 60 minute session is $200.

My Background as a Personal Parenting Coach

Kathy Slattengren

I'm dedicated to guiding you in becoming your best as a parent. I've helped thousands of parents from across the United States to Australia through my online parenting classes, presentations and coaching.  When your kids’ behavior is really pushing your buttons, I help you discover ways to set effective limits, invite cooperation and have a lot more fun together!

I have a Master's Degree in Education with an emphasis in instructional design and counseling from the University of Washington. I've learned a lot about parenting while raising my own two children and working with other parents. I draw on the wisdom of world-class researchers and parent educators. My joy comes from helping parents discover ways to respond to their children that are ultimately helpful, not hurtful.

Unlike psychotherapy, I do not provide diagnoses of mental health, psychological or biopsychosocial assessments, or prescribe any medications. All the information you share is confidential and will not be shared unless required by law.

Parenting Support Groups for Specific Concerns

There are various support groups focused on specific parenting challenges. If you'd like to meet with other parents who are going through a similar situation, below are some groups to consider.

  • Drug/Alcohol Addiction - Is your child addicted to drugs or alcohol? Al-Anon offers support groups for family members.

  • Internet/Technology Addiction - Is your child addicted to the internet / technology? The Internet and Technology Addicts Anonymous offers support groups.

  • Mental Health - Has your child been diagnosed with a mental illness? The National Alliance on Mental Illness offers support groups.

The Youth Mental Health Project offers free virtual peer-to-peer support groups for parents and caregivers. Their website says "Support meetings are parent-driven and are meant to provide parents who are concerned about their children’s mental health with a dependable and caring network and valuable peer support. Meetings are intended for any parent or caregiver, including but not limited to parents, guardians, grandparents, foster or step-parents who is concerned about their child (ages 1 - 24) who struggle with anxiety, depression, mood dysregulation, or other emotional, behavioral or mental health problems. A child does NOT need to have a diagnosis for a parent to benefit from meetings. Meetings are organized and led by a trained Facilitator who is a parent or caregiver with lived experience raising a child with a mental health condition. While the dialogue among parents is facilitated, the content is driven by the needs of the parents in attendance."

  • Teens Acting Out - Does your teen have a lot of risky behavior? The Changes Parent Support Network offers a structured support network for parents who are dealing with challenging teen behavior. The meetings are free, online and parent led.

The troubled teen industry is a multi-billion dollar industry with limited regulation. Teens who have gone through some of these residential treatment have been abused or died under their care. If you are considering a residential treatment program, research it carefully.
