Parenting Presentation Topic Information
Taking the Stress Out of Parenting and Building Great Relationships with Your Children
How we handle parenting challenges affects our relationship with our children. A parenting approach which involves responding in positive, effective ways to misbehavior will strengthen those relationships. We'll discuss key elements including controlling initial reactions, setting effective limits, using discipline which teaches, responding with compassion instead of anger, avoiding arguments and guiding children to owning and solving their own problems.
Parenting the Digital Child: Setting Limits and Teaching Responsibility in a Connected World
The digital world allows children to quickly access all sorts of information and be highly connected to both old friends and new friends. How do you teach your children about the new responsibilities and potential dangers that come with these technologies? We’ll explore parenting issues around cellphones, the internet, Facebook and video games.
Bringing Out Their Best: Providing Guidance While Avoiding Parenting Pitfalls
The way we approach parenting can help bring out the best in our children. We'll look at different parenting styles along with each style's benefits and drawbacks. Which style do you typically use under various circumstances? How can you change your style to be more effective? We'll discuss matching our style to our children's growing needs.
"Why Can't You Behave?": Ideas for Positively Handling Misbehavior
It is critical to develop effective skills for responding to misbehavior. We'll discuss developmental changes and challenges, setting a positive tone, strategies for handling misbehavior, setting firm limits in a kind way and encouraging your children to own and solve their own problems.
"Hey, Your Kid Just Hit My Kid!": Handling Conflict in Group Situations
When kids play together, there are bound to be conflicts. Some of the things we'll discuss include agreeing on unacceptable behavior, setting effective limits and enforcing rules, giving attention to positive behavior and guiding our children to solving their own problems.
On the Bumpy Road to Independence: Guiding Teens to Becoming Responsible Adults
We want our teens to grow into adults who can thrive on their own. How do we balance trying to keep them safe while also allowing them increasing responsibility? How do we deal with teenage attitude? How do we get them to do their share of the work around the house? We'll discuss guiding teenagers to successfully gain their independence.
